Bug Description
Binary package hint: ubiquity
This happens during the installation of Xubuntu Feisty Fawn 7.04 Herd 5.
Description: The installer window has a minimum size (won't resize any smaller) that is too big for my laptop with a 1024x768 display. In xubuntu, this means that the installer's cancel/back/next buttons are off-screen. Perhaps the install program doesn't adjust its minimum size to adjust for top/bottom panel encroachments on screen real estate.
Steps:
1. Boot with xubuntu-
2. Wait for xfce to finish starting.
3. Double-click on "Install"
4. Smile at welcome screen, but remain befuddled because there are no buttons to click in the window.
Workaround:
I moved all the panel applets to a single panel along the left side (right side probably also okay). The installer window barely fits in the remaining space. A novice user might be lost and frustrated, but perhaps xubuntu does not target such users. Does this problem appear in ubuntu/kubuntu?
Sorry, the bug is actually xorg related. I noticed that xorg detects the lcd panel size as 1024x768, but uses 800x600, refusing to try 1024x768 because of 'bad mode clock/interlace /doublescan' . I suppose installer functionality at 800x600 is not important. I'll try to close/withdraw this bug.
