Bug Description

Binary package hint: kernel-image-2.6.20-12-generic-di

I just checked for updates and saw the kernel update listed in my summary. I installed it and reboot. We'll it won't boot now. It makes it through one line of the boot startup screen and then freezes. I have to use 2.6.20-11 (last kernel) to use my system.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 and Feisty. My system worked great until I installed this kernel and works great with the last kernel still - seems like a bad release.

I can provide info if you tell what to send. Since I can't boot I don't know what I can gather from logs. Let me know.

I thought this may help. The log entries from 10:30-10:40 (in that range) should be from the new kernel that would not boot. Btw, the system just freezes with the progress bar stuck with about 1 pixel of the bar filled - no panic or anything else ever shows - system is frozen. Num lock, caps lock keys, etc. are unresponsive.

How did you get these log-files. I'm curious, because the bug that I think this one is, stops the IDE controller from being configured so it's not possible access any hard-disks to save the log file :)

I think this is a duplicate of bug #93648, so I'll mark it as such.

I boot with the previous kernel - I just attached the log not knowing
what the problem was. I just did so in case. Just ignore it I guess.

Thx.

Beginning with the Hardy Heron 8.04 development cycle, all open Ubuntu kernel bugs need to be reported against the "linux" kernel package. We are automatically migrating this bug to the new "linux" package. However, development has already began for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. It would be helpful if you could test the upcoming release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . If the issue still exists, please update this report by changing the Status of the "linux" task from "Incomplete" to "New". We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Thanks!
