Please make sure you're running the latest amarok, 1.4.5-0ubuntu6, and then try again. Then give us a detailed description of what the dialog boxes say and what you clicked that caused mp3 to not be installed.

Thanks

I have the latest version of Amarok installed. When I tried to play an mp3
in Amarok it just hung and there was noting to be read on the dialog box.
However, the toolbar of the dialog box red that there is no mp3 support
installed installed for Amarok. However, I solved the problem by installing
the libxine-extracodecs package from the package manager. Now, Amarok is
working fine,
However, I did try uninstalling libxie-extracodecs and then playing an mp3
again and the same hang up occurs again. Automatic Installation of the
package libxine-extracodecs just does not work as it should with Amarok.
Therefore, I had to install the package manually again.

Thanks for your reply

I can confirm the issue... I just formatted my laptop, installed Ubuntu 7.04, amarok and a lot of other applications...
When I tried to make amarok play .mp3's it through a popup with the headline: No mp3 support for Amarok (translated from in danish though :) )
Then it crashed, the buttons on the popup wasn't even painted... I've seen the dialog before, when I installed edgy, back then it worked fine... But it seams to be broken now...
Just for the record the procedure was:
1: Open Amarok
2: Complete first run dialog
3: Browse the collection
4: Drag a song from collection to playlist
5: take screenshot
(I didn't click anything on the dialog that crashed ! Step number 2 is not needed unless it's first run, I've tried it more than once)

I've attached a screenshot of the crash, don't mind the effects, it just beryl making the application dark when it crashes :)

I can confirm the issue for Kubuntu 7.04. It would be nice for amarok not to hang or libxine-extracodecs to be a suggested or recommended package for amarok-xine.
