It is actively maintained upstream (unlike Kopete our current offering). It is being packaged in debian but we have taken a recently version to get in before feature freeze.

It uses Telepathy for the backend network access which is already well used elsewhere in Ubuntu.

Not thrilled with this though. It ships /usr/lib/libktpchat.so (no versioning) as part of a non-library package. It also triggers a lintian error "postinst-must-call-ldconfig". But... KDE packages seem to have a history of overriding that error in Debian and Jonathan tells me upstream is planning to stop shipping this internal library. So I'll hold my nose for this one.

Due to being inundated with server MIRs, I will be unable to perform this security audit before final freeze (sorry). That said, considering the recent TB discussions surrounding Kubuntu, I wonder why this needs to be in main at all, since it will be supported by the Kubuntu community and not the Ubuntu Security team any way.

Changed to invalid, we're staying with kopete for now. Kubuntu is in main for 12.04, Canonical's change came too late and too suddently for Ubuntu to change.
