This is very frustrating because when the user for the first time uses the Ubuntu Live Cd he is staring the very nice loading screen with the ubuntu logo but after the permanent install, if he installs the appropriate drivers for his vga ( in our situation the Nvidia ) on the next system restart he only gets the ugly Text loading screen ( the fallback plymouth-theme-ubuntu-text ) and so on .

There where numerous guides and walkthroughs in forums that advice to modify config file to make the framebuffer earlier on boot etc . In previous versions of ubuntu this was a temporary fix but not for oneiric or precise ....

This must be fixed once and for all from the plymouth team .

Thank you

Get the same issue on Precise i386 + generic-pae + nvidia 290/295
Seen this while booting and later while shutting down the system. What is strange is the font size is too big (14/16) most of the time, and rarely normal (9/10) sized.
