Bug Description

I'm on Ubuntu 11.04 (2.6.38-13-generic #54-Ubuntu SMP)

arbtt-dump and arbtt-stats were working fine until recently.

Now I'm getting the following error:

$ arbtt-stats
arbtt-stats: Prelude.chr: bad argument: 2022855

$ arbtt-dump
arbtt-stats: Prelude.chr: bad argument: 2022855

Thanks,

Sam

Hi. What is your version of arbtt? Was there an upgrade recently?

It seems most likely that there was an update that broke some things for you. The solution is to run arbtt-recover, then take the capture.log and rename it to something else (that is, back it up instead of deleting it), then rename capture.log.recovered to capture.log.

@Joachim: The similar error I encountered was "arbtt-stats: Prelude.chr: bad argument: 1728640". When I used arbtt-recover, it gave me a lot of outputs like this: "Failed to read value at position 6811645:
   Unsupported TimeLogEntry version tag 112"

Does this help? Unfortunately, I don't remember if there was a recent upgrade.... But on the bright side, arbtt-recover saved all the data for me perfectly.

Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

Changed in arbtt (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed

@Jason: That recover is spilling out lots of text is normal, as it is quite brutally trying to skip some amount of data and continue reading.

The cause could also be a broken read, e.g. when the user logs out precicely while arbtt-capture is writing data, or maybe two arbtt-capture instances ran at the same time somehow... but none of this has ever happened here...
