I was trying to watch a movie using VLC, or SMPlayer and it just crashed X server. Happens all the time. Using ATI Mobility Radeon HD5730 1GB, binary drivers - 12.1

Same problem and workaround here with a HP Pavilion dm1-4000 (AMD Radeon HD6320M / AMD Zacate Dual Core E-450).
