Bug Description

Binary package hint: kubuntu-live

Tried several times to get Kubuntu feisty herd-5 live cd to load on my HP NX9420 laptop so I could install it to hard drive. came to a blank screen a few lines after the initialization of network interfaces and initializing 3945abg wireless card. could type things into this blank screen (which has no observable effect) but couldn't change run levels or restart X with ctrl-alt-bkspce. when i pressed the wireless button on my laptop, gave message to the effect of the wireless network device being turned off and on. laptop is core duo t2300 with 512mb RAM, ati x1600 and 1600x1050 resolution with synaptic touchpad. i've installed ubuntu and kubuntu 6.10 on this computer with no problems, although that was with the stock monitor with resolution of 1440x900. however, after replacing that with the new monitor, the previously installed ubuntu 6.10 and kubuntu 6.10 ran fine.

--Just wanted to add that the MD5 sum checked out and the CD also checked itself after burning and worked fine, and I experienced these problems immediately after burning it, so I can say that the disk wasn't mishandled or caused an error upon.

Hey,

I had tried install the UBUNTU 7.04 in a Notebook HP Compaq nx9420 and it does not start. My Notebook have a Dual Core processor, 1024 MB RAM, HD 100GB, etc ...

The Live CD does not start, and stops at the step of to STAR the X SERVER ..... So came some informacion about Signal 11, ABORTED.

I too had tried to UPDATE my distribution already installed (UBUNTU 6.10), maiking the UPGRADE), but same so, it does not work and stops at the moment at start the X SERVER ...... Caught Signal 11 -

This SAME Laptop was working perfectly with the UBUNTU 6.10 and updated ..... But with Ubuntu 7.04 not ...

I have the same problem on my Compaq NX9420, ATI X1600, Dual-Core, 2Gig RAM. Live Boot-CD runs into blank screen. Tried ALT-CTRL-F6 / F5, the I was able to use the Bash (after typing some nonsense and pressing RETURN)
Tried to start X (startx), but response was "no valid modes found", and had no chance xorg.conf due to read-only file system.

Normal shutdown was possible. End of story.

btw: Ubuntu 6.10 worked fine except altering resolution setting (had to get along with 1024x768).

Bug #89853 is about ATI X1400, not X1600, but you might take a look at the solution there and see if it's relevant.
