Bug Description

While running apt-get update, I get the error: W: Duplicate sources.list entry http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/partner amd64 Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/archive.canonical.com_ubuntu_dists_oneiric_partner_binary-amd64_Packages)
W: Duplicate sources.list entry http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/partner i386 Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/archive.canonical.com_ubuntu_dists_oneiric_partner_binary-i386_Packages)
W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems

And it says that running apt-get update will fix these problems, but it does not.

The intent of that message — which is not completely clear — is that running ‘apt-get update’ may resolve general issues. It is not specifically about the duplicate source entry warning, and you should reasonably expect that apt will not modify sources.list, so you have to update that file yourself.
