Thunderbird freezes after some time

After launching Thunderbird 11, it freezes after some time and needs to be "force quit".

on Ubuntu 12.04 with Thunderbird 13.0.1 it freezes if not used for some time.
this happens on my desktop at home and on my laptop.
sometimes it freezes for 30 minutes and more...
