Bug Description

With latest upgrade in Precise, enabling autohide feature result in launcher always hidden, even if no other window overlaps.

Expected behaviour : just like before last upgrade
launcher autohides when a window overlaps.
If window is opened or if no window overlaps the launcher, the launcher should be shown.

Thanks Omer.
That saddens me, as I really liked "dodge" window mode (although I didn't know the name).
Well, maybe I will live with it, but this isthe first regression I see in 12.04 that really affect me :-(

I'm very disappointed that this feature has been redacted by Mr. Shuttleworth. I decided to accept Unity on my netbook specifically because of this feature.

I'm tired of Mr. Shuttleworth constantly trying to make my desktop look/behave like his. These constant disruptions to the desktop behavior (moving close icon, introducing Unity, preventing the panel from hiding, removing hovers from panel icons, universal menu, adding Dodge mode to launcher, removing Dodge mode from launcher) are becoming quite tedious and disconcerting.

I'm tired of having to relearn how to use my PC every time I upgrade to a new Ubuntu version.

This bug still affects me as well with Unity 5.8.0, unrelated to any dodging of windows. The launcher just never appears if auto-hide is enabled, even if I move the mouse over the left edge.

I think there is some confusion here. The title of this bug exactly describes the bug I am having but the description refers to the dodge functionality. Gabe's comment is the bug I am seeing. This behavior is not a duplicate of bug #928719.

So to be clear here is the bug:

I go to System Settings -> Appearance -> Behavior and choose "Auto-hide the Launcher. When I do this the launcher retracts off-screen as it should.

When I move the pointer all the way to the left of the screen I see a faint grey "shadow" perhaps 5 pixels wide but the launcher itself never appears. It only appears when I hit the super key.

So let me reiterate again: this is a bug NOT a feature request.

I fixed the problem by CCSM->Unity Plugin->Experimental and changing "Launcher Reveal Pressure" to "1".

This means that on my laptop, the default setting is a bug. I was never able to get the Launcher to reveal (using left-side or top-left as the reveal location) until I made this setting change.

This is not a duplicate of #928719. This is about autohide not working. The dock hides but does not come back unless you use the hotkey. No amount of moving the mouse to the left edge causes the dock to show up.

Affects me in 12.04 on 2 different virtual machines (one with Unity 3D and one with Unity 2D.

I don't see this as being a duplicate of the linked bug. Here's my situation:

- Acer W500 (AMD C-50)
- Using the open source RADEON driver

A clean install of Ubuntu 12.04 works fine, but after the first update sequence (and on Ubuntu 12.10 from the start) the Launcher never appears if set to autohide unless I hit the hotkey (whether the Windows key on the keyboard or the button on the bezel.)

No grey shadow appears, no adjustments in CCSM have any impact. I have not tried the proprietary drivers. Once enabled it hides and never returns without hitting the hotkey. Neither touchscreen nor mouse make any difference.

I am having the same issue as wmarone it's been driving me crazy for months. broken in 12.04, i hoped it would be fixed with a 12.10 upgrade, but no. if autohide is enabled nothing short of disabling it will bring the dock back.
