This is the same bug as bug 800226. We have fixed it in Precise, but didn't SRU because we find it would be too disruptive to incorporate the fixes.

Anthony, that's great news but I am slightly puzzled, since the guys from the Xorg project responsible for the intel driver are struggling to make it work:

Paulo, if possible could you give Ubuntu Precise daily build a try and see if it helps you? We tested and believe Precise already have the necessary fixes, but it won't hurt if it can be verified on more machines. Thank you!

OK Anthony, I will try to give it a try tonight or tomorrow and will get to you on this.

I guess the best way to get Precise is :

Anthony, during beta is the 32 bit version preferred for testing over thr 64bit one or it doesn't matter?

Paulo, wonderful to see you volunteer! The link you wrote is correct, and 32-bit or 64-bit doesn't matter.

Anthony, I don't have good news. UNfortunately fridays build of padolin didn't work. X keeps blinking and never starts up properly. It seems it's not working yet with my Vostro. However, from what I understand from the other bug, the other tested vostro is an intel i3. I have a vostro 360 intel i5 which probably has slightly different hardware.

What else can I do to help?

Unfortunately the remote bug watch seems to fail. The correct address is:
https://www.libreoffice.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=42278

The problem is that launchpad.net doesn't seem to like https.
