BeatBox doesn't read album art from metadata

Bug Description

I have my album art in all my music (when I play it on my phone or in totem it shows up.) However, BeatBox ignores this instead opting to attempt to download it from the internet. This works mostly, but on some more obscure music it cannot find a match. Also it only attempts to download album art when I play a song from the album, and it doesn't show up until next launch of BeatBox

Oh, I'm sure there's already a report about this... but I can't find it. Maybe it got closed or something... it was about embedded album art I think. Scott implemented GStreamer-based tag parsing that fixed that, but it was unstable upstream or something like that. I wonder where has the report gone...

Yes, Scott finished the tagger but GStreamer segfaulted while reading tags. He also added a bug watch to that report.

It seems to read the album art from the metadata just fine in Album View mode but not in the column view, it won't display an album cover at all.

Hmmm that doesn't seem right. Both look to the same place for the art. Are you sure that the reason the album art isn't showing in the album column isn't that there aren't enough items in the album? It only shows the art in the album column if there are enough songs, otherwise it falls back to simply showing the album name.

Oh I had no idea that was possible but yeah you're right the albums with 2-5 tracks do not display the cover which I guess makes sense. I think there should be a way to disable the covers and just display the text only if one prefers that.

Please report another separate bug for that, although it is planned anyways :).

Status says "Fix Released". I just D/L'd Beatbox version 0.5 and the same issue persists. I am running Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit. When you run Beatbox for the first time, Album Art is displayed correctly. Closing the program and restarting Beatbox loses the Album Art.

Deleting the Beatbox database in /.local/share/beatbox will reimport the Album Art correctly on the next program launch until the program is closed and relaunched again.
