Bug Description

The top-level function vm has a strange recursive call, whereby the function calls itself the very first thing, if vm-session-beginning is unbound. It is mentioned that this allows a defadvice on the first call, but no details are given.

This bug report asks to get rid of the recursive call. What is it for?

The feature was requested by Blueman on gnu.emacs.vm.info on 2007-12-21

http://groups.google.com/group/gnu.emacs.vm.info/browse_thread/thread/5a7ddb50fe7a6e1f/440cac2b81e833a8?lnk=gst&q=vm+session+beginning#440cac2b81e833a8

and it was put into VM 8.0.6. (it was removed in 8.0.7 and added back in 8.0.8.)

Rob F promised to add a `vm-startup-hook' and remove the recursive call, but it never happened.
