Bug Description

When opening simple-scan via console it gave me this message: "** (simple-scan:4126): WARNING **: Unable to set front ADF source, please file a bug" So here I am trying to file this bug. I think the "report a problem" application gathered all the complicated geeky information, I hope at least.

If not, I have never managed to actually send a bug report before, I'll try to help, let me know what you need.

Kind regards,
Hedgehoc

Hi there,

you might consider reading https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SimpleScanHardwareIssues

You'd save us trouble if you pasted the scanners device id, make and model here.

Also checking if xsane/scanimage work would be great.

Thanks

Hi Michael,

model and make: HP Color LaserJet cm1312nfi MFP hpijs pcl3, 3.10.6
It's an all in one (well, not all, just print, scan, copy, fax)

Scanimage gave:
scanimage: open of device
hpaio:/net/HP_Color_LaserJet_CM1312nfi_MFP?ip=192.168.1.2 failed: Error
during device I/O

the first time, but maybe the device wasn't ready yet.

next times I got:
scanimage
scanimage: output is not a file, exiting

By the way, there is no big problem for me, as most times simplescan
just works. It is just that I noticed the lines in my command line and
did as was asked of me: file a bug.

If you need any more info, let me know,

Moon

Hi there,

did you give the proper arguments to scanimage? did you try xsane?

If this is not really bothering you, and would rather not spend some time working on this, it is probably not worth the trouble. That message is kind of misleading...
If you are intersted in debugging the issue, that would be great, of course. First step is getting it to work with xsane and/or scanimage. Because if it does not work that way it either, it is very unlikely that is an issue with simplescan, but a problem with the sane backend.

Best Regards

In that case I'll practise my bug reporting skills with a more buggy
bug. Tnx for your guidance anyway.
