Bug Description

This bug has an easy fix: just 2 lines to prevent a race condition during xserver handover at start.

On my system the severity of this bug has exaggerated after a routine update of the linux kernel from 2.6.32-37-generic to 2.6.32-38-generic: while X would not come up 1 in 20 starts before, it now is the other way round: it starts in 1 out of 20 times. This bug has been fixed with high importance in xorg-server (2:1.10.2.902-1ubuntu1) for Oneiric, but has not been backported to Lucid (just inserting two lines would suffice: details are pointed out here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/441653/comments/69

This bug seems to bite not so many systems, but with very different graphics hardware (radeon, nvidia, intel embedded, even vm), mostly on older hardware: the percentage might be higher with users of the LTS version.

Thank you

Shouldn't this rather go into Lucid proper, via SRU? If the fix is applicable to xorg-server 1.7.6, that is.
