Bug Description

Binary package hint: konqueror

With konqueror version 4:3.5.6-0ubuntu14, the unicode content: directives in the 'gyou' class elements at http://nihongoresources.com/downloads/pdict/pdict.xml are rendered as if they were ISO-8859-1, while the rest of the document is UTF-8. This seems to be caused by the lack of a character set declaration on the CSS file, http://nihongoresources.com/downloads/pdict/pdict.css, in the response headers. In these cases, a more reasonable default would seem to be to default to the referencing document's character set, rather than using the locale default.

Please note that I have contacted the webmaster in question, so the CSS file may soon have the appropriate charset declaration added to the headers. Nevertheless, I believe this default should be changed.

Thanks for your report. If I have understood this is a website problem of the CSS file. However you would change Konqueror default settings for CSS referencing to document character set. Is correct?

Yes, that's right. Choosing the character set of the document seems like it'd be a much more sensible default than the locale default charset, particularly when the document /does/ declare a character set. Admittedly, very few CSS files have content in non-ASCII charsets...

Thanks for your suggestion to improve Kubuntu. In my opinion it may be a good idea. However, the changes you are requesting aren't really a bug and require more discussion, which should be done on an appropriate mailing list or forum. <http://www.ubuntu.com/community/forums/> might be a good start. Thanks.
