Laptop display stays blank on boot and X, external works.

When I use linux-image-3.0.0-15-generic (not linux-image-3.0.0-14-generic as suggested by the information collected by the bug-reporting tool), then I do not see the boot screen, nor do I get X to display on my laptops screen.

However, the external monitor works.

Also, I get frequent mouse freezes when using this kernel release, which was not the case with the 3.0.0-14 version. Booting the old kernel fixes all problems!!! So this does not seem to be an X or initramfs problem but is caused by the kernel for sure.
