Michael,
Thank you for your reply. Might I ask one more question? I run Kubuntu on
an old PowerMac G4 (PPC) - can you tell me what my options are now that
support for this architecture is being officially dropped? I've spent some
$$ "souping up" this old machine & would like to continue with Ubuntu based
distros.

Hello Alex,

ubuntu is and will still be available on ppc. quite a few core developers have ppc machines and use them regularly. There is just no official support anymore and its entirely a community effort.
