opening a video crashes Xorg

Bug Description

When I try to open any video with mplayer/vlc/totem X crashes and Lightdm restarts. (This has happend since todays updates.)
see the relevant syslog lines:

thank you for your bug report, that seems an xorg,video driver issue rather than a GNOME one

affects: gnome-session (Ubuntu) → xorg-server (Ubuntu)
