Bug Description

When I click the gnome-system-log icon after searching in the Unity menus, I get an empty window with no logfiles, and no option to open extra logfiles.

This defeats the purpose of a log viewer a little ;)

Thank you for your bug report, did you try using the menu? You should have an option to add logs there

There is no menu in the app.

(I have uninstalled the appmenu-* packages because I don't like the "apple" menu. This used to put the menus back inside the apps)

does it make a difference if you run "unset UBUNTU_MENUPROXY; gnome-system-log"?

No.

Note that it's not in my environment to begin with anyway. And this also seems to affect nautilus, now that I think of it (I thought it might be a gnome3 push: fewer menus).

oh, uninstall appmenu the way you did it probably stopped working on precise since we use xsettings now and g-s-d set those by checking if unity-panel-service is running

I was affected by this on 10.04 -> 12.04 upgrade today. After finding this bug I went to synaptic and installed indicator-appmenu from unity's Recommends which pulled everything necessary in. Not sure why that recommended package was not installed during the upgrade.
