Bug Description

I'm trying to update from Oneiric to Precise. Here's what update-manager -d says after the "Downloading the release upgrade tool" window gets closed:

authenticate 'precise.tar.gz' against 'precise.tar.gz.gpg'
exception from gpg: GnuPG exited non-zero, with code 1
Debug information:

gpg: Signature made Wed 18 Jan 2012 07:53:58 AM OMST using DSA key ID 437D05B5
gpg: /tmp/update-manager-w6dStv/trustdb.gpg: trustdb created
gpg: BAD signature from "Ubuntu Archive Automatic Signing Key <email address hidden>"

Are you using a proxy server of some sort that would affect the downloading of precise.tar.gz? You should be able to find that file in /tmp/update-manager-w6dStv or if its not there in a folder named similarly if you start the process again. I'd check the size and md5sum of the file to ensure it has not been modified.

Changed in update-manager (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Medium
status: New → Incomplete

I'm having the same issue, but after starting the update-manager with sudo it works.

i have both precise.tar.gz and precise.tar.gz.gpg downloaded in to /tmp/update-mange-xxxx.

authentication fails even if i run it manually:

honnix@honnix:/tmp/update-manager-RWxJ3G$ gpg precise.tar.gz.gpg
Detached signature.
Please enter name of data file: precise.tar.gz
gpg: Signature made Wed 28 Mar 2012 01:21:24 AM CST using DSA key ID 437D05B5
gpg: BAD signature from "Ubuntu Archive Automatic Signing Key <email address hidden>"

For me this problem was caused by /tmp being mounted as noexec.
