Sub-menus and some items sometimes become inaccessible

Bug Description

Too often the network menu in the indicator panel has some entries that are unavailable.
For example, sub-menus don't open, e.g., when I hover over 'More Networks' or 'VPN Connections' it fails to open the list of VPNs.
And when I click on 'Edit Connections' nothing happens.

It happens to me every other day, and only logout/login gets me back the network management functionality.

Killing the nm-applet process and starting it clears the problem (until the next time..)

This happens on my machine as well. (12.04) Seems to be related to switching wi-fi networks.

On my machine this happens most often when I suspend the machine and come back.
Killing and restarting the process does the trick too.
