Bug Description

(11.10 amd64, Unity 2D. This happened on a work machine that I will have to return in 2 weeks, so if you want any more information, please say so promptly.)

My system crashed with "unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference" and a bunch of other messages (sorry, I don't have a copy, as I didn't know what was going to happen later and don't generally bother to report one-off crashes) on a black screen. I restarted it with Alt+SysRq+e,u,i,b.

I then opened Firefox (which had been open at the time of the crash, and re-opened with the Web page it had been showing at the time) and closed it apparently normally, but on then trying to open Firefox again, got the "Firefox is already running, but is not responding" message. I then tried to shut down the system normally, got a "not responding" alert for Firefox, and clicked Cancel. This left the system running but with no Unity bar (which is probably a bug in itself), so I again restarted it with Alt+SysRq+e,u,i,b.

This time it came up with the Unity bar containing the default icons, not the ones I'd put in it. This problem persisted after restarting again.

Found the original crash messages in the attached log, but not sure how relevant they are to the disappearing icons...

Sorry, didn't notice unity and unity-2d were separate packages.

EOL have been reached, so no more maintenance. If that issue still exist, then report again using ubuntu-bug.

Changed in unity-2d (Ubuntu):
