Bug Description

This happened twice in quick succession.

I am using Ubuntu 11.10 on an HP Probook 6560b notebook.

FIrst time I logged in, the desktop appeared. I started gnome-ppp for an internet connection which I do normally whenever I need and have never encountered any problem. After some time the screen went totally blank and the touchpad froze. I had to do a hard reboot.

Second time I again logged in, connected to the internet, started thunderbird but found the synaptic touchpad froze again. The keyboard was working and I used it to start a terminal and reboot.

CHecked the logs to see Xorg report a ddxSigGiveup, which to my mind spells xorg issues.

pramathesh ambasta, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-input-synaptics REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.
