Play will not play on OSX 10.7.2 Lion

After installing Lion 10.7.2 Play will not play.
It loads the playlist but pressing the play button produces no sound output or movement of the play counter.
The play button toggles state when pressed.

I have even downloaded and built from source+frameworks with Xcode 3.1 and that build behaves the same way.
There is no error or crash but no playing either !!!

I also had this problem after installing Lion. Is there a fix for this, or is Play now a useless program for Lion users?

Also does not play sound om OS X10.9.5. After selecting a track, it shoes it in the track-window but does not start to play it and the pinpoint remains on the left end of the trackbar, greyed out.
Editing tracks work well, only not playback! :-(
