Bug Description

Hello,

i use Stellarium 0.10.6 now, because the Stellarium Version 0.11.0 and 0.11.1 are now so slow that a normal use is not more possible.
With Stellarium 0.11.0 + 0.11.1 i have around 2-3 Frame/s.

(The big Problem here is that this both Versions was running slow enough some Months, but now not more).
I have Download the newest Version and fresh Installed, but same Problem here with the very slow Frame/s.

Computer is a Mac mini 3,1 (Intel P7350 CPU, Nvidia 9400m, 4GB RAM, 120GB SSD) with OS 10.6.8.

Stellarium 0.10.6 is slow enough and usable, but the new Versions of Stellarium are now so slow it's a Pain !
Please fix this in the next Version of Stellarium.

I really like this Program and it is one of my Favorite PRG, Thank You.

Regards: Carsten

Hello Alexander,

i have attached the log.txt File.

Yesterday i have changed some Values for Stellarium to this:

maximum_fps = 60
minimum_fps = 1

I have do the followed things:

Start Stellarium 0.11.1 and wait that Stellarium is slow down the frame Rate to 1 frame/s (0.897-0.898).
Now click and move the Mouse and You can see the frame/s are slow enough for few seconds.
After this few seconds Stellarium is again slowing down while You move the Mouse.
(If You release the Mouse-Button and click them again and move the Mouse, Stellarium is slowing down a bit more !)
The other Problem here are the FPS-Values on the Screen, there are total Fake !

Here a Link to a Video (2.7MB) that shows first the slow enough Stellarium 0.10.6 and after this Stellarium 0.11.1:

Hope this Info helps You a bit to find the Problem here.

Thanks for video. Do you can make some experiments and show it results:
1. Try hide all lines and grids from sky - it's changed FPS?
2. Try run Stellarium via Terminal.app as "/Applications/Stellarium 0.11.1.app/Contents/MacOS/stellarium --safe-mode"

Hello Alexander,

For 1.: No, again slow Frame/s. (It needs many Seconds and tons of Mouse-clicks to close the View-Window, Stellarium 0.11.1 is extremly slow responding).
For 2.: Same here when i Start in Safemode, still very slow Frame/s....

@Alexander Wolf:

No there some Problems here to build Stellarium from the (Linux) Source Code on the Mac.

The first is that Xcode on my Snow Leopard DVD is defective, but it shows it was complete installed.
The second thing is the bzr command is not found.
The third is that the CMakeList.txt File is not (visible for the Installer), see SnapShot.

The other is i have now installed over 6GB only to find out that is not possible to build Stellarium from the (Linux) Source Code...

There are a lot of changes to the OpenGl code between 0.10.x and 0.11.x. Seeing a drop in frame rate of 40% or so on a small-ish isn't overly surprising.

Unless you would like to provide one of the developers with a Mac mini to test on, we have no way of understanding this issue, let alone adressing it. The other option is for you to build & profile the app yourself, if you have the know-how. On the two machines I build & test on (an old 17" first gen core2duo MBP and a new MBP Retina), I get between 50 and 100 fps.

That's all we can do.

Nice 7 Months of waiting for nothing...

...i hate this really, but Never mind i use in the next Week a Self-Build PC so i have no longer a slow-Bug.

Stellarium 0.10.2 says around 53f/s (28f/s 0.11.4) with Constellation-Figures on, but in Reality this are around 6-9 f/s (7f/s 0.11.4) when i move the Mouse.
That is still to slow for both Versions, but 0.10.2 is (usable).

THE FRAME/S DISPLAY ON STELLARIUM IS STILL FAKE AND SHOWS NOT THE REAL FRAME/S FROM THE PROGRAMM.
(Should i Report this Bug ?)

OK forget it, i will still check the next 3-4 Mac Versions from Stellarium, but after this i have no more interesting if this Bug is still in the Program.
