Bug Description

On Kubuntu 11.10, my barcode scanner output this for a given barcode (an ISBN of a French book):
çè_éé&é&é'-"è

On an Ubuntu 10.04, the same barcode reader for the same barcode do output this:
9782212124637

This last one is, as you guess, the correct string.

PS: a barcode reader is just like a keyboard input device; it works out of the box (well, on an old Ubuntu 10.04 at least.

I'm not sure what more information should I provide...

However, I scanned a barcode from the console (after typing "Ctrl+Alt+F1" from KDE session) and it does output the exact same garbage. I tried with a few other barcodes, and it seems that the outputed garbage are actually translatable:
ç = 9
è = 7
_ = 8
é = 2
& = 1
etc.

Maybe it's not directly related to X, but to the USB or keyboard input driver or something?
