Bug Description

Okay, what gives here? When using Skype in Lucid the webcam mic works fine. However in Xubuntu 11.10 Webcam mic don't. I've tried setting the Alsamaster to be the same as what is in Lucid. That didn't work. Checked all settings for comparison. Still didn't help. The only way that I can get the sound test to work is by using an external microphone. Even tried sound recorder with same results. But when reading in the Xubuntu help section I noticed that it mentions something about using external microphones only. So, I'm taking that to mean that the webcams microphones aren't going to be working with Xubuntu? Just external only? I mean, I can hear sound fine from other media except for when trying to talk or record something without an external microphone. If that's the only way to use Skype or something like Sound Recorder then they should put that in the description of Xubuntu to give people fair warning when thinking of downloading and installing. I'm fine with that if it's the only way to use it but it would have been nice to have known that in the beginning then I wouldn't have been searching all over hell and back trying to find a solution to this. Maybe I misread the help section of the Xubuntu but it makes it seem to read that you're only able to use an external microphone when recording or using Skype. Anyone else have this going and am I on the right page in assuming that it is an external use only?

No. Different completely. It seems that in Xubuntu 11.04(don't know about earlier versions) not able to talk/record unless using external microphone. When in Skype I can use an external microphone and hear myself on the Sound Test. But if using web camera microphone I'm unable to hear myself on the Sound Test in Skype. Same thing happens when using Sound Recorder. I must plug in an external microphone to record, unable to use the web camera microphone. Whereas in Lucid, I can use the web camera microphone in Skype, sound recorder etc. I can hear sounds fine when listening in Skype, and other media. Just unable to talk and hear myself without using an external microphone, hence the title of the question. Was reading in the Xubuntu help section and it mentions about using external microphone when recording. If that is needed to be done in all aspects of talking when using Xubuntu then they should put a warning in the description of Xubuntu on the site so people will be aware of the fact instead of letting them search all over the place looking for fixes like I've been doing. Just common courtesy to do so.
