Bug Description

OO 64 bits on EEEPC 1015PX.

After resuming from suspend, the window that had the focus is shifted from its position before suspend and is decorated with weired arrows as shown in the attached screenshot. To exit this state, only Alt-F4 works (if the buggy windows is the gnome-terminal, typing "exit" in it works also). Clicking on the top left closing cross does not work. If the window was fullscreen before the suspend, the bug is not visible on resume. But minimizing the window exhibits the problem.

This happens only with unity 3D. Switching to unity 2D solves the problem. It happens also on a fresh new account, so it doesn't seem to be liked to a specific configuration.

Sometimes, seems randomly, the cursor shape is not an arrow as usual but a closed hand (like when dragging a window using alt-left click). When this happens, it is impossible to exit this state by closing the faulty app : it seems that the mouse and the keyboard are totally stuck. The only solution I found is to switch to a VT and to kill Xorg.

I have exactly the same EEE PC 1015PX and this bug has caused me great irritation. Sometimes suspending and resuming works fine few times a row and then seemingly randomly those arrows appear when resuming. This can be reproduced by simply suspending and resuming many times, but I think it needs to have a right hardware because I can't reproduce it with my another pc which has the same Ubuntu version 11.10.

I did some inspection and those arrows are called Unity Grab Handles. They may have something to do with the bug, but even though I disabled them in Compiz Settings Manager, my Desktop comes totally unresponsive when resuming - as often as with grab handles. When this happens cursor looks like a hand, but I can't move anything. Moving a mouse works and moving the cursor near border of the screen makes it look like I have dragged something to fill half of the screen. Orange box appears then but thats all I can do with my desktop and no resizing actually happens.

This has likely something to do with a bug #913585, but I am new here so I don't know how marking a duplicate works.

When this bug happens instead of restarting whole X server you can save your open windows by restarting only Unity in virtual terminal (alt+ctrl+f1). Command to do that is:

DISPLAY=:0 unity --replace &

I've just seen this bug with 12.04 on a macbook air 4.2...

I've found the culprit :

* Start compiz confg manager
* Scroll to the end
* Deselect "Unity MT tab handles"

Et voilà ! Another epic compiz adventure.
