Bug Description

On Packard Bell Dot s netbook, 32 bit Ubuntu 11.10 is unable to reboot. It prepares to reboot, screen blacks out but froze at that point. No matter where you tried to reboot, terminal, panel, it occurs every time. I tried reboot after logging out but didnt work. Logout, shutdown etc. functions work fine.

I have a Packard Bell dot s f3711 and am using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I encountered the same problem but could solve it by adding "reboot=e" to the kernel command line. So do:

- edit file /etc/default/grub as root (sudo gedit /etc/default/grub)
- add reboot=e to the entry GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT
- save file and exit editor
- run update-grub as root (sudo update-grub)
- please note the problem won't disappear before the 2nd reboot

"reboot=e" tells the kernel to use an EFI function for reboot instead of the default keyboard controller mechanism.

Cheers, Bhil
