Bug Description

I tried to use unity back when it first came out and with my card the Nvidia 460M I had blinking and laggy windows. Well it seems in 11.10 the blinking display has been fixed, but when I grab a window and drag it to the other side of the screen it is almost like I removed some frames of a video and my window is telaported to where I eventually stopped dragging. I have tried using the Nvidia driver that was given by default. I then tried the "Post-Release-Updates". I also tried the current x-swat ppa which was version 290.xx of the Nvidia driver. This is with a fresh install.

I have tried changing the Nvidia settings with no luck using the graphical tool they provide.

Any help is appreciated as I do believe Unity is nice. I would like to be able to use it. Let me know how I can help solve this issue.

It is not a bug, only a misconfiguration:

[ 11.389] (EE) Failed to load module "nv" (module does not exist, 0)
    [ 11.389] (II) Module vesa: vendor="X.Org Foundation"

From those two entries you can see that the NVidia driver is not loaded, instead the vesa driver is loaded. So this is not a bug but a misconfiguration in your system.

Dear Daniel van Vugt,

I added you here, because this bug might be similar to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/861061.

I hope this is the correct way.

Togehter with Goddard we found out, that his graphics driver was not set up correctly and we fixed that, but the problem with laggy performance in unity is still present. Have you any clue how to find out whats wrong and whether this is the same bug?

For now I will reset the status to "New" as Gottards problem is not solved.

If that helps: originally he asked on askubuntu: http://askubuntu.com/questions/87070/nvidia-gtx-460m-laggy-display/87370#87370

This looks like a duplicate of bug 764330. Please look at the video to verify.

Even though 764330 is presently a duplicate itself, discussion in bug 773861 suggest it will soon be unduplicated. Thus, this bug will possibly become a duplicate of bug 764330 if not bug 773861.
