update-apt-xapian-index crashed with error in loop(): [Errno 104] Connection reset by peer

Bug Description
It seems to occur when trying to install updates. I generally use Synaptic, but the update manager needs to work, so I test it periodically.
I can see a held-back upgrade of update-manager but it can't be installed due to a conflict with ubuntu-desktop and notifier
