Bug Description

hi guys. I can't get my netbook working with emgd.
the error after "startx" from cli:

---
Fatal server error:
no screens found

(would you need more details?)
---

my machine:
i686 - 2.6.38-13-generic-pae
dell inspiron 1012
ubuntu 11.04 (natty)
(I'm using fluxbox)

I've installed everything following this:
https://launchpad.net/~gma500/+archive/emgd (installation had no
problems).
basically:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gma500/emgd
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install xorg-emgd emgd-dkms
sudo emgd-xorg-conf

dmesg | grep DMI:
Dell Inc. Inspiron 1012/0P9MDV

my 10-emgd.conf is by default (I don't know what to touch to get it
working).
I can't even use vesa mode because after loading X, it crashes saying
that vesa was not found.

do you think you can help me? thank you!

ps: is there some none invasive way of installing emgd (to avoid reinstalling and restoring xorg config on egmd failures)?

if it helps someone, to restore X if egmd fails, do the following:

1) comment (rename /etc/apt/sources.list.d/gma500-emgd-1_8-natty.list to "~gma500-emgd-1_8-natty.list") or delete the file (because this includes other versions of the files you may already have)
2) # apt-get update
3) # apt-get purge xorg* xserver* emgd*
4) # apt-get autoremove (for deleting all extra/related files.. I don't know if really necessary)
5) # apt-get install xorg
6) reboot (might be not necessary)

note: ensure you don't have anymore /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-emgd.conf
if it's still there, delete it (you can easily restore it reinstalling emgd).

I'm using fluxbox and could revive X again doing this.

Please upload /var/log/Xorg.0.log when you try to execute startx command.

I just tried with emgd-1.8 as michael proposed (via email) but the same problem.

Hi, From what I know the 1012 does not have GMA500, so I do not think you should be using this PPA. According to the spec sheet is has GMA3150. It looks completely different. I would assume that using this ppa would hose things up for you.

I do not believe this dell inspiron 1012 should be using this driver.
