Bug Description

I downloaded the Linux Mint 12 32-bit DVD and put it on a USB stick using unetbootin on an Ubuntu 11.04 box.

I then started Mint on a Dell Mini 9. I verified that my wired internet connection worked correctly by loading some pages in Firefox. I then initiated installation using the desktop icon.

The installation went fine except for when it started to download language packages. ETA varied from 150 to 600 minutes and the progress bar didn't seem to advance past 1/4 or so. After half an hour I hit the button which bypasses this part of the installation.

The same happened later at another point when the installer tried to download something else. I hit the bypass button there as well, and the installation finished successfully.

Mint booted successfully from the SSD, and I had lots of updates waiting. Since I suspected that the server used during installation had problems, I tried to select another mirror. I used the GUI tool which probes different mirrors to select the best one. The progress bar went to about 50% and stayed there forever. Eventually I killed the updater.

I launched the updater again and selected one of the Netherlands mirrors. It seems to work but the speed is poor.

My location is in the capital area of Finland. I have a 8 Mbit/s ADSL connection, and I haven't experienced similar problems when installing or updating recent versions of Ubuntu, Xubuntu and Lubuntu.
