Bug Description
After installing Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot), had some issues with HPLIP. First installed packaged HPLIP to no avail and then tried 3.11.10 to no avail. Reverted ( I think) back to downloaded version of 3.11.7
This seemed to work well for the last week or so, but suddenly yesterday, failed with;
error: Unable to communicate with device (code=12): hp:/usb/
error: Device not found
Some other issues;
1) First off, which version of HPLIP do the developers recommend I should use with Ubuntu 11.10 32-bit? I'm a bit confused at to which I should go for.
2) Consistently, Ubuntu native pdf reader doesn't print. I have now reverted to acroread for Linux which printed well yesterday and then the system stopped on reboot for any other application; LibreOffice, websites, image apps etc. So effectively I cannot print at all.
3) Will I have to just keep reinstalling each time the HPLIP software stops?
Have attached hp-check.log
Thanks in advance
Also, Unity taskbar app repeats three drop down items to read thus;
"HPLIP Status Service
HP LaserJet P1005 Printer (BC01MQM)
HP Device Manager...
HP Device Manager...
Settings...
Settings...
Quit
Quit"
So the options (HP Device Manager, Settings and Quit) are repeated. This has happened each time a version of HPLIP has failed on Ubuntu 11.10 Unity.
