ffscreencast fails to record

Just copied the script into a directory, installed the requirements and ran the program. Attached is the error log.

Looks like your version of ffmpeg doesn't support libfaac. You may need to install a different ffmpeg or compile your own. I used this guide to compile my own ffmpeg with libfaac support:-

may be a good idea to add this in the error messages or elsewhere since this was done on a pretty stock oneiric system - unless ffmpeg supports libfaac out-of-the-box from precise onwards.
