Install appeared to be ~80% complete. If I remember correctly, this happended with the 11.10 alpha on this laptop also.

Problem was not present with 11.10 final release. Unfornutealy I don't have any more details.

I just remembered, the same fixed for 12.04 alpha was the same as the 11.10 alpha: uncheck the 3rd party software and install updates check boxes. The installs completes with no issues.
