Bug Description

Binary package hint: knetworkmanager

As written in the summary, when I try to browse the web with konqueror, and knetworkmanager (that I have set to be in offline mode by default) is running in offline mode, I always get an error saying "could not connect"; other protocols (for example ftp) work fine instead.
If I completely quit knetworkmanager, than http works fine again too

Hmm, I thought if you set KNetworkManager to offline mode, it was supposed to be offline, i.e., no network. I just tested here and when in Offline Mode, I can't connect to anything with any protocol. What am I missing here to try and duplicate this issue?

Changed in knetworkmanager:
importance: Undecided → Medium
status: Unconfirmed → Needs Info

Ok, I realize I didn't explain very well the problem, so I reformulate it: when I boot my system, knetworkmanager is set by default in offline mode (since I had problems with previous versions of knetworkmanager to manage my two different static ip configurations depending on my location, home or work), and then I set up my static connection with netgo. After that, if I try to browse the web with konqueror, I get error connecting (for example I get "Could not connect to host http://www.kernel.org/."), while I can connect using ftp protocol inside konqueror (that is ftp://ftp.kernel.org works), and some other applications that use the network (that is for example thunderbird, amarok) work too. If then I completely shut down knetworkmanager, then http works inside konqueror too (that is for example http://www.kernel.org works now).
Hope that can help.

Same problem here, even when knetworkmanager is in 'online mode' but 'not connected'.

Problem is that I have to use from home dialup with ppp. That is not supported by
knetworkmanger. So knetworkmanger thinks I'm not connected, but that not true.

IMHO the on/offline status can't work until knetworkmanger supports all sorts
of connections.

Anyone knows how to set on/offline? Then I could set the status in the ppp
scripts.

I do confirm this Bug with gutsy RC: When knetworkmanager is set offline, and e.g a kppp session is up and running then Konqueror is unable to handle http (>"unable to connect"). Fish and ftp (and maybe other protos) work! Firefox could handle http the same time so connection is properly ok.

I can confirm this problem as well - using CDMA connection, I get connected, Firefox is communicating perfectly, Skype / Kopete is online, but Konqueror and KMail can not connect anywhere.....
