Bug Description

Muon doesn't show nitification in tray about new updates available.

1) Kubuntu 11.10
2) 1.2.1-0ubuntu1
3) I expected to see a notification about new updates available to install.
4) There is nothing happend instead

I'm sure the new updates available because after runing:

apt-get update
apt-get upgrade

the new updates installed

P.S. The show notifications about new updates option in Muon settings is on.

I've tride to reset all settings to default deleting config files (muonrc, muon-updaterrc and muon-notifierrc). For a short time problem was gone but then it appeared again.

Kubuntu 12.04
Muon 1.3.1
KDE: 4.8.3

How to reproduce the bug:
1. Run sudo apt-get update.
After command is completed there are no notifications about updates available appears.

2. Run Muon - Configure Muon Manager.
3. Push "Defaults" button and then "OK".
After that notification icon appears in tray. But next time when updates are available I must repeat all this to get an notification.

If you need any additional info to fix this, please, ask.

Thanks.

The problem is still is. Now when I'm running muon-updater, I found nex error in logs:

[system] Rejected send message, 2 matched rules; type="method_return", sender=":1.56" (uid=0 pid=2363 comm="/usr/bin/python /usr/share/apt-xapian-index/update") interface="(unset)" member="(unset)" error name="(unset)" requested_reply="0" destination=":1.55" (uid=0 pid=2361 comm="/usr/bin/qaptworker ")

So, maybe it's not Muon problem. Plese, advice me, should I create new report and for what item or it is still muon problem ? Thanks.

This functionality works. It must be something else wrong with your system. Maybe you permanently hid the update notifications?

Oh, I missed part of your comment. You can check the output of running "/usr/lib/update-notifier/apt-check" to see if it's a bug with the update-notifier-common package. If it's not that, then the update daemon isn't getting notification when the update files change, and this would be a kernel bug.

After I runed

/usr/lib/update-notifier/apt-check

I get only:

0;0

What does it mean?

It means that apt-check detected 0 updates and 0 security updates.

Well, recently I upgraded from kernel 3.5.2 to 3.5.3, connected echidnaman/staging ppa and after updating resources tray icon appears ! May be the problem was in kernel as you said....
