No way to completely disable the Unity Launcher

I have installed an alternative mechanism for launching applications and displaying running tasks. I would like to completely disable the Unity launcher (in this scenario it is superfluous, and taking up precious real-estate on my none-widescreen display) but there appears to be no way to do so.
