A website would be nice. Just one page with logo, description, download link, screenshots / screencasts.

Sounds reasonable.
I think this should be either "hosted" elsewhere (Launchpad does not offer any kind of web hosting I think, so the Ubuntu wiki or the GNOME wiki would be possible) or if it is self-hosted should require minimal maintenance. Either a simple, static html page that you can simple serve somewhere, or possibly a static page generator. A static page generator requires minimal maintenance because you locally generate static html pages that you can upload somewhere. It supports adding "news" articles as simple wiki-syntax files and integrates them in the navigation, multiple users can edit entries if simply put the files into a git/bzr repository.
