Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.20-9-generic

Just did a aptitude dist-upgrade from edgy to feisty on an ASUS W3N laptop, and upon booting into feisty, ACPI suspend no longer works (it would go into suspend, but will not wakeup).

Also, he wireless on/off software button on the laptop will no longer work. This is the error message I'm getting from /var/log/acpid.
/etc/acpi/wireless.sh: line 9: echo: write error: Invalid argument

I then tried to run:
echo -n 0 > $DEVICE/device/power/state;

myself as root, based on what /etc/acpi/wireless.sh is doing, same error message.

Booting back into linux-image-2.6.17-11 from edgy-security makes ACPI suspend working again. However I will have to test the wireless button later.

Ok, the software wireless on/off button works as well, with edgy's linux-image-2.6.17-11. So it appears to be an ACPI issue with 2.6.20 on the ASUS W3N.

Noticed another thing with 2.6.20. The kernel module asus_acpi doesn't like on bootup, whereas 2.6.17 does.

However, despite loading the module in 2.6.20, the ACPI functions are still not working. Suspend still hangs on wakeup, and software wireless switch is still not responding.

Same wifi problem here with an asus V6V. But suspend/resume still works fine. The two things must be unrelated.

Nonetheless I am now unable to switch the powerstate of my wifi card since my upgrade to feisty. Worked like a charm in Edgy.

I don't know how to set this bug as "duplicate".

Ok, perhaps the wireless part is better described, but the bug still remains for being unable to suspend on the W3N.

Hmmm, just tried the latest kernel from feisty (2.6.20-10), and the suspend bug seems to be fixed.

So yes, this bug can merge with 90883.
