Bug Description

My System Specs To Start...
Laptop Toshiba Satellite L305 - (S5919)
CPU (I upgraded it so don't be stupid and say it don't have one) : Intel® CORE 2 DUO T7300
RAM : 2 GB
HDD: 300GB HDD
Grapics: Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M
OS: LinuxMint 12 (lisa)
Kernel: 3.0.0-12-Generic

I been loving LinuxMint 12. However at random times the mouse stops working and wont move. the system has not frozen . i can alt tap into other programs i have up, and use the keyboard. but mouse stops. (I have not yet tried using a external mouse. i rarely use one anyway so this is a annoying issue.)

I didn't see any related information to this in my search so i don't know if anyone other is having this problem.

Any info i can post tell me what to post. The issue is random, and no errors pop up.

I've got an Atom based netbook where the mouse also freezes after approx. 5 minutes!

oh to add on.. I wanna say the link you posted sounded like the problem. i notice it happen more often when just opening something, even if its just a folder. but i also seen it happen before i can do anything. I boot up my laptop. enter my password at login, and it load ups and the mouse not work. even after doing something the mouse work and i leave the laptop for like 10 minutes and come back and it happen before i can do anything.

The timing has been random at every time. Laptop even gone 2 days without shut down and reboot without the issue. then another day within 1 hour it happen 20 times <_<

I have experienced the same - but an external mouse works, even when the mousepad is useless.. strange!

Maybe it would for me as a well. but i don't always care to use one on my laptop. i use if mainly when im laying in bed, or out somewhere. times when a mouse is too much of a pain to deal with. i have one for it. but still haven't tried.

Cant say i want to switch ether. i use the touch pad mouse and want it not doing what its been doing.
So far its been ok yesterday.

Same happens to me. I have an HP 6730s Laptop with the following specs:
CPU: Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU T5670 @ 1.80GHz × 2
Mem: 2GB
Graphics: Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset
OS: Linux Mint 12 (Lisa) - 64-bit
HDD: 160GB

It does get annoying having the mouse freeze at random times. I haven't tried using an external USB mouse.

I Switched to Mate, and so far have not see this issue happen. again its very odd when it wants to happen. it attacked me like crazy the other day happening even after it finished booting. then a day later dose not happen at all.

At this point im not saying switching to mate will help. its very strange when it wanted to happen. lol

I believe this is actually a bug that Linux Mint inherited from Oneiric. Corresponding one here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/oneiric/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/868400?comments=all

I should add that synclient touchpadoff=0 solves it for me, at least for now. I also had two instances of syndaemon running as mentioned in the comments of that bug report.

Thanks for the info. i still haven't seen this bug happen when booted up with MATE. So whatever was inherited only happens in normal GNOME i guess.

I switched back and stop using mate. so far still had no issues when in mate.
but i switched back and tried the touchpadoff=0 and so far the issue hasn't shown its ugly head.

I only see the one syndaemon running, so i guess it did the trick for me. its been fine for since the 14th.

I have a similar problem with me on Mint 11 2.6.38-13
Toshiba L305-S5865 Satellite, using a Logitech MX518 Mouse.

Left click randomly stops working, I must reboot the shell.
