Bug Description
This is related to bug #878815 which describes a bug in mplayer. When this bug is present it prevents smaplyer from working. As soon as smplayer tries to play anything it reports the error about ff_codec_bmp_tags. However, I've noticed that gnome-mplayer does not seem affect by this bug while smplayer is. Perhaps it is just an smplayer option but no amount of option changes has gotten smplayer to work in 11.10 for me. In any case, smplayer should be able to work around this mplayer bug like gnome-mplayer.
