Bug Description

The theme does not load correctly: the menu bar at the top is a light gray, some icons for launchers on the left are missing and the overall appearance of gtk applications looks like a Windows 95 theme. I can post a screenshot if that helps.

The problem exists on a fresh installation of Ubuntu 11.10 (64-bit). I'm not completely sure the unity package is to blame for this; apologies if I should have specified a different package. I am willing to do any extra debugging required to fix this.

$ apt-cache policy unity

(gnome-settings-daemon:5115): Gdk-WARNING **: The program 'gnome-settings-daemon' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
  (Details: serial 723 error_code 8 request_code 143 minor_code 22)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
   that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
   To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
   option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
   backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Workaround (for me at least): disconnect all USB devices before booting.

Bug confirmed. #3: the bug happens for me at every boot, with no usb device attached. I have to restart lightdm 2-3 times before obtaining a working desktop.

Often, some 30-60 after login, the mouse freezes and only restarting lightdm brings the desktop back in ordinary state.

Attached .xsession-errors for a broken session.
