Selecting Normal syntax highlighting doesn't work

Bug Description
Steps to reproduce:
1. Open latest build of scratch
2. Set highlighting to "Normal" in Status Bar
3. Focus the GtkSourceView (text box)
What happens?
The drop-down list for syntax highlighting resets to "".
What should happen?
The drop-down list stays at "Normal".
Also, on boot, the syntax should also be Normal (but it's not working either).
