Bug Description

Adobe has issued a new version of Flash Player. Web videos are no longer working with old version of Flash Player. Please update the Ubuntu repositories with the latest version. I'm not proficient enough to update the version with the ...tar.gz file provided by Adobe and can't find instructions on the web on how to do this. Using release 10.04 LTS - the Lucid Lynx.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

Adobe Flash 11.1.102.55 is available in all supported versions of Ubuntu including 10.04.

Although written for a newer version of Ubuntu, these instructions might help you install Flash: https://help.ubuntu.com/11.10/ubuntu-help/net-install-flash.html

Hi Jeremy. Thanks for the response. The Adobe Flash Player plug in is showing as installed in the Ubuntu Software Center. But now I am even more confused because in Mozilla Firefox when I click on Tools, Add-ons, then the Plugins tab, Adobe Flash Player isn't showing up as a plug-in. The plug-ins that show up are the DivX Web Player, Iced Tea NPR Web Browser Plugin, iTunes Application Detector, QuickTime plug-in, VLC Multimedia Plugin, and Windows Media Player Plug-in.

Also Adobe Flash Player videos were working fine as of Friday 11/11/2011 as I watched videos on IMDB.com and Hulu.com. Saturday 11/12/2011 is when I started having problems with videos not working. As I am a newbie, I didn't make any changes to my system Friday or Saturday.
Thank you.

Also, one of the websites I went to had a link to a "Install Adobe Flash Player" site at http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/. Yesterday I downloaded the tar.gz file and then with the help of a friend unzipped the file. Then my friend said that there should be an executable file that would finish the installation. But we were unable to identify which file is the one to finish the installation. I am a little familiar with how Terminal works. If you can tell me what to do to finish the installation, then maybe that will solve the problem.
Thanks again.

Trying to download and install a .tar.gz for Flash isn't a good idea on Ubuntu since it's easier just to use Software Center.

I'm not really able to help you very much with this. Perhaps try uninstalling Flash and reinstalling it. Firefox will need to be restarted afterwards. Alternatively, you could try installing the Chromium web browser.

For some reason removing Adobe Flash in the software center then reinstalling it in the software center fixed the problem. Thanks Jeremy.

fyi. Before removing and reinstalling it, I went back into Mozilla Firefox Tools, Add-ons and the Plug-ins tab. I clicked on the Find Updates tab and it opened a window to https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/. In this window it said that Adobe Flash had been removed for my safety. More accurately it should have said my inconvenience. Now it says that "Shockwave Flash" is an installed plug-in. Just a little info in case someone with Ubuntu wants to provide some feedback to someone at Mozilla. Thanks again.
