Main Menu "New Item" button isn't working

Bug Description

I'm using ubuntu 11.10 in "Main Menu" the buttons - "New Item" "New Separator" "New Menu" aren't working - Nothing happens when pressing them.

I also get this error. When I run alacarte from the terminal, I get the following output whenever I click "New item":
