 installing linuxmint Katya 11 from downloaded iso on usb - syslog and partman attached as one file below as requested

Ubiquity seems to fail because it's trying to create a directory that already exists... shouldn't this be fixed in Ubiquity itself then?

From what I can tell Linux Mint 11 is based on (11.04) and if the installer is unchanged that would make this bug a duplicate of bug 891711.
